WCU has been providing education and training programs for Jamaican teachers since the early 1970’s. WCU offers Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) degrees in Educational Supervision and in Special Education in Jamaica for teachers who hold a baccalaureate degree in Education. Instruction for graduate cohorts are held in Jamaica at sites in Kingston, Montego Bay, and Discovery Bay.
These degree programs are designed to meet the learning needs of teachers in Jamaica and does not qualify as a certification program for teacher licensure in North Carolina or any other state in the US.
Qualified Jamaican teachers are accepted into the program if they meet the following requirements: 1) applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university (submit WES report if applicable); 2) applicants must submit and application packet (application and official academic transcripts); and 3) receive a satisfactory score on the admissions exam for their program of choice.
Candidate applications are reviewed and scored on the basis of completion and compliance with the above requirements and academic success.

Bachelor's Programs
UPDATE: It is with great pleasure that we announce that the University Council of
Jamaica has granted an extension of accreditation of Western Carolina University’s
Bachelors’ degree program in Jamaica. Students in the 2019-2021 Kingston and Montego
Bay Bachelors’ cohorts will finish their program by October of 2022.
NOTE: At this time we are still not accepting applications for new Bachelor degree
cohorts in Jamaica.
WCU announces the discontinuation of the BSED in Inclusive Education degree program
in Jamaica. Efforts are underway to teach out current cohorts in Kingston and Montego
Bay. More information on the remaining schedule of courses and course make-ups (if
applicable) will be forethcoming. Transcripts are available free of charge for all
students in good financial standing.
