2024-2025 Scholarship Applications OPEN Oct 1st!
The Undergraduate Application period will close on February 1, 2024. The Graduate/Doctorate scholarship application deadline is August 1, 2024 (specific dates vary by program)
Scholarships offered by Western Carolina can be divided into three categories:
WCU offers numerous scholarships that have been established by alumni and other friends of the university. Some of these scholarships are based on financial need and others are based on merit. Many of these scholarships also have criteria related to academic program of study, county of residence, or leadership and involvement in activities. The general scholarship application is required for consideration for these scholarships. Students also must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 1 each year in order to be considered for need-based scholarships.
Scholarships are available to new freshmen and transfer students based on academic achievement. Consideration is based on academic records submitted during the admission process. Once students have been admitted to the university, they are automatically considered for Brinson Honors College scholarships and Chancellor's Series scholarships. The number of awards offered and the award amounts vary depending on the competitiveness of the class. Offers to new freshmen begin in the fall and offers to new transfer students occurs in late spring.
Graduate students can be considered for many of our merit-based and need-based scholarships and should submit the online scholarship application. Additionally, there are several programs available through the Graduate School to assist with funding your graduate education.
