Bias Reports, Complaints, Concerns and Ideas

Western Carolina University is dedicated to providing students with venues to express thoughts, complaints, and/or concerns.  The following links allow designated University personnel the opportunity to better understand an idea, thought, complaint, and/or concern and respond in an appropriate manner.  We have provided some general guidance on which source to use to submit information.  It is important that you provide as much information (answering the questions provided) as you are able to allow us to investigate and/or research an issue to the fullest extent possible. Report a Bias Concern or Complaint

Students with general ideas, thoughts, complaints, and/or issue should use the following link. Examples include, but are not limited to, concerns about a class/program of study, issues within a residence hall, thoughts related to Cat-Tran, comments about campus dining facilities and/or services, recommendations for enhancing campus safety, etc.

SUBMIT AN IDEA, COMPLAINT OR ISSUE

Students with specific information, complaints, and/or concerns should use the following link to report. Examples include, but are not limited to information about a potential crime, alleged Code or policy violations, potential safety hazards on campus, ideas for campus improvements, etc. To assist with the processing information, individuals are asked to identify the "Nature of (the) report". Please note, concerns about the safety of an individual should be reported to a University administrator or the University Police immediately.

REPORT A CONCERN

Students with specific information related to an alleged incident involving discrimination, harassment or intimidation of a person or group based on a protected class as defined by the University (see policies 10 and 53) should use the following link. To assist with processing information, individuals are asked to identify the "Nature of (the) report" as "Bias Report". Please note, concerns about the safety of an individual should be reported to a University administrator or the University Police immediately.

REPORT A bias incident

Students with information related to an individual who is exhibiting behaviors about which you are concerned should use the following link. Examples of these types of behaviors include but are not limited to changes in hygiene, depression, poor class attendance, threats of self-harm, etc. To assist with the processing of information, individuals are asked to identify the "Nature of (the) report" as "Student of Concern". Please note, concerns about the safety of an individual should be reported to a University administrator or the University Police immediately.

REPORT A CONCERN

In compliance with University, state, federal, and accrediting body (SACSCOC) guidelines, laws, and policies, WCU investigates all reported matters to the fullest extent possible and utilizes the information to address concerns, hold individuals and groups accountable, and enhance the comprehensive educational experience for the entire WCU community.  Students who have a complaint/concern against the University as a whole and wish to file with the Board of Governors of the University of NC, may do so using the following resources: UNC Post-Secondary Education Complaints; Student Complaint Process; and Student Complaint Form.
