Recruitment & Intake
Joining a fraternity or sorority at Western Carolina University is a wonderful way to be involved with campus life, find a group of life-time friends and mentors, participate in philanthropic and community service activities, and increase your leadership skills. Our recognized Chapters coordinate their recruitment efforts with the Department of Greek Student Engagement & Development through each leadership Council – the Interfraternity Council (IFC), the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), or the College Panhellenic Council (CPC).
Students are eligible to join a fraternity or sorority with the following requirements:
- Be enrolled as a current student at WCU
- First semester freshmen must have an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher from high school. Current students must have 12 credit hours with a 2.5 GPA or higher and Transfer students must have 2.5 GPA or higher on twelve credit hours from their previous college or university
- Register for Recruitment and/or attend an interest meeting
In addition to encouraging membership recruitment throughout the entire academic year, the Interfraternity Council organizes formal recruitment programs at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. These week-long programs allow interested men to meet and learn more about each fraternity at WCU. In addition to the organized recruitment week programs, IFC hosts information sessions and events throughout the academic year to help potential new members meet the chapters and learn more about membership in a national fraternity.
National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities take new members through a process called Membership Intake. This process is organized by each recognized chapter individually and includes the selection of candidates and the education about the national organization. The process concludes with initiation and full active membership. NPHC hosts NPHC Etiquette each semester to help interested students learn more about each national chapter, meet the active members, and ask questions regarding the intake process. Please attend this meeting in order to begin the process of membership intake.
The College Panhellenic Council hosts primary sorority recruitment for the National
Panhellenic Conference sororities at WCU. The primary recruitment process is a mutually
selective process whereby potential new members and chapters look to find their best
fit during each round of the formal recruitment programs.
Primary Recruitment is hosted during the Fall Semester.

about fraternity and sorority life, the College Panhellenic recruitment process, and
how to register.
Latinas Promoviendo Comunidad/Lambda Pi Chi Sorority, Inc. takes new members through a process called Membership Intake. This process is organized by the chapter individually and includes the selection of candidates and the education about the national organization. The process concludes with initiation and full active membership. The chapter hosts an open house and various informational events each semester to help interested students learn more about their organization, meet the active members of the chapter, and ask questions regarding the intake process.
