Jacob Deal
Interim Director of Student Conduct
Jacob Deal earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Western Carolina University and a Master of Public Affairs from WCU. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Organizational Learning and Leadership at the University of North Carolina.
With over a decade of experience at WCU, Jacob has served in various leadership roles, including his current position as Associate Dean of Students. In this capacity, he is dedicated to fostering an engaged and supportive campus environment while ensuring student success.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his dogs, Wrigley and Maverick.

Melissa Day
Assistant Director of Student Conduct
Melissa grew up in Salisbury, North Carolina. She spent her entire childhood vacationing in Western, North Carolina to see family, and fell in love with the mountains. Western Carolina University was the only place she wanted to attend college. Receiving her Bachelor of Science in Communication from WCU, she decided to make Cullowhee her home after she graduated in 2014. Melissa always says that it’s the mountains that brought her here, but it’s the people that kept her here. Melissa loves WCU and all the students, staff and faculty on this campus. Since graduating from WCU, she has worked at the WCU bookstore, was the Administrative Assistant in the Advising Center and a Student Success Specialist in the Office of Student Retention. Melissa joined the Office of Student Conduct in August 2023.
While Melissa has been an employee at Western, she also completed two Master’s degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. In her spare time, Melissa loves to write, make music with her guitar and drums, bake, kayak, and spend time with her family and friends.
Christian Beamguard
Assistant Director of Student Conduct
Christian is a second-year graduate student at WCU in the Higher Education Student Affairs program (HESA). He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Erskine College in 2015 and has worked in program development for middle and high school students all over the Carolinas.
When he's not at WCU, Christian enjoys playing video games, reading horror novels, playing the guitar, and spending time with his partner, Calista.

Katie Geiman
Administrative Support Specialist
Katie is a former elementary education teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Ball State University and has a Master of Arts in Teaching from University of the Cumberlands. She spent a decade teaching overseas and traveling around Asia before moving back stateside and creating a life in North Carolina.
Katie enjoys playing volleyball, reading historical fiction novels, and exploring this great big world with her wife Mandy and their dog Simon.
