Reynolds Hall is named after Alonzo Carlton Reynolds who served as President of Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School from 1912 - 1920. He replaced Western Carolina University founder Robert Lee Madison. One of his first acts as President was to purchase a small cart and two Shetland ponies that hauled supplies between the school and Sylva. He is noted for expanding the curriculum and improving campus facilities during his tenure as President.

Private rooms in Reynolds Hall adjoin a second private room via the bathroom. Students in private rooms share a toilet and shower with the student in the adjoining private room. A sink is located in the room. Note that these rooms were formerly used as doubles so they still have two sets of furniture in them.
