Katerina Spasovska (Ph.D. University of Tennessee) is an Associate Professor at Western Carolina University, Communication Department. A former reporter and editor in various media outlets in Macedonia, Dr. Spasovska research interests are in journalism, media development, and minority media in South-Eastern Europe. She has presented her work at national and international conferences and published research in communication journals.
Spasovska has a wide teaching interests. She is teaching reporting/ writing classes at Communication department as well as professional development classes. She likes to explore use of technology as a reporting tool (data driven journalism; use of social media) as well as teaching specialized reporting like public affairs reporting, feature and magazine writing and international reporting.
Spasovska research interests are in journalism and profession and changes in the journalistic practices in South Eastern Europe with focus on states from former Yugoslavia. She has also produced research on media development and the place of minority language media and their development or dying. In recent years she is looking into comparative study of journalism education in South Eastern Europe.
