What is a vinyl cutter?

A vinyl cutter is a computerized machine that uses a blade to cut images and text out of thin sheets of (usually adhesive) vinyl.

Where is the vinyl cutter?

The vinyl cutter is on the far wall of the Scholar Studio, across from the front doors of Hunter Library.

How do I reserve it?

Just visit our vinyl cutter reservation page.

Is there anything I have to do before I can use it?

Yes! You need to be certified to use the vinyl cutter.

You can complete the self-certification process on your own. Just visit the Circulation desk for a copy of our training manual (or download the vinyl cutter instructions, vinyl cutter software instructions, and vinyl cutter tips right here) and reserve the vinyl cutter. After you complete your training, bring your finished vinyl creation to the Circulation desk to become certified.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $5 per square foot of vinyl. Don’t worry if you make a mistake – we charge based on the size of the finished product.

How do I pay?

You can pay for your masterpiece at the Circulation desk. We accept CatCash, regular cash, and checks.
