Sport management is the application of business principles to the sport industry. As an academic discipline, sport management is dynamic and focuses on sport-specific concepts within the framework of business and management. Ethical, social and legal theories are also used to examine issues that are unique to the sport industry. In Western Carolina University’s Master of Science in Sport Management, hands-on skills and expertise serve as cornerstones of the curriculum, so that our graduates are Business-Ready® for opportunities that come their way after completion of the program.
Our M.S. in Sport Management is a fully online program offered by WCU’s College of Business, and includes a certificate in project management. You’ll learn how to administer programs, manage people and organizations, and plan and execute special and ongoing projects. The 30-hour curriculum includes courses in Sport Administration and Governance, Economics and Financial Aspects of Sport, Sport Management, Critical Issues in Sport, and more.
An M.S. in Sport Management prepares graduates for job opportunities in business management and leadership, athlete representation, event production, project management, market research, and more. Graduates will go on to jobs in intercollegiate athletic administration, professional sport administration, sport facility management, sport communications, sport event planning, sport agencies and more.
